The Memphis TEA Party Endorses Governor Mitt Romney

Romney best positioned to beat Obama and help repair the economy

MEMPHIS, Tennessee (January 30, 2012) – The Memphis TEA Party announced today that it is endorsing former Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States. We believe Romney is best positioned to beat Obama and help repair the economy.

Mark A. Skoda, Chairman of The Memphis TEA Party and host of The Mark Skoda radio show, stated, “The tea party movement launched on the basis of excessive spending by government.  Subsequently, the health care debate further energized the base resulting in nearly one million people attending the 2009 9/12 march on Washington DC.  Furthermore, the movement adopted three core values in uniting many conservatives.  Those are fiscal responsibility, constitutionally limited government and free markets.

Over the last few weeks and months of the primary we have had discussions about who is the most conservative, who stands for the Reagan legacy, who is the social values candidate and who might beat Obama.  Throughout this dialogue, we have experienced the knock down drag out fights that exist in many primary cycles.  We saw it in 2008 between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Having been on the front lines of the tea party movement for nearly three years, I have seen so very much good come out of the organizing, the education and the electioneering that the movement sponsored.  But more recently, we seem to have moved away from the three simple tenets that allowed us to function without leadership and without ideology.”

The Memphis TEA Party is making the decision to endorse former Governor Mitt Romney for president.  In addition, the Memphis TEA Party will encourage other groups who wish to support his candidacy and work with those groups to beat Barack Obama in the general election.

Mitt Romney is committed to his family, his state and his country.  He has demonstrated the growth necessary to govern as he has campaigned and has generated the ideas and plan necessary to attack the largesse of government while also bringing the nation together.

Don Adams, Chairman and Founder of the Independence Hall Tea Party PAC said, “We are glad to see other tea party leaders step up to endorse Mitt Romney.  We did so at the first of the year and we are convinced that he is the man to beat Barack Obama.  I look forward to working with Mark to bring other like-minded leaders together for the good of our nation.”

Skoda further commented, “The tea party movement is a big tent and many states lie ahead to the final nomination.  We believe Mitt Romney is the best candidate to contend with Barack Obama in the general election.  He has the skill, the organization and the resources to win back the presidency and begin to align the government with those three core principles of the movement.  We are pleased to endorse his candidacy.”
